Talk to a human

Questions about a lumber estimate, a board-foot formula that looks off, an idea for the next tool β€” this page reaches the person who maintains the calculator, and every message gets a reply.

Step 1

Pick what this is about

Choosing a topic pre-fills guidance below the form and tells us where to route your message. Pick the closest match β€” "Something else" is a real option.

Step 2

Write the message

πŸ’¬ Something in a result confusing? A mode you never use? Feature requests shape the roadmap, so be blunt.

The form composes an email locally β€” nothing is submitted to our servers, and we don't store form contents. See the privacy policy.

What happens after you write

No black-hole inboxes: here is the loop a message goes through, whether it is a correction to a board-foot formula or a complaint that a result confused you.

  1. 1

    You write, we read

Every message lands in a real inbox and gets read by the person maintaining the calculator β€” not a ticket queue that closes on silence.

  2. 2

    We verify against sources

Formula corrections get checked against PS 20-25, NIST, or the industry standard you cite; bugs get reproduced with your exact inputs before anything is called fixed.

  3. 3

    The site changes

Accepted formula corrections ship to the calculator within the week. Everything else is answered directly, even when the answer is 'we won't build that.'

Quick answers, no form required

Most questions about the lumber calculator and this site fall into one of these six. If yours isn't here, that's what the form is for.

Q1

Is the calculator really free?

Yes β€” every tool on the site is free with no account. No email wall, no trial, no project profile to maintain.

Q2

Where do my saved results go?

Onto your own device, in browser storage. We never see them, and clearing site data erases them permanently. Details in the privacy policy.

Q3

Why does my estimate differ from my lumber yard's quote?

The calculator uses industry-standard formulas and national-average species prices; your yard uses regional pricing, grade adjustments, and current market conditions. When they disagree, your yard's quote wins β€” always.

Q4

Can you add a new wood species or lumber type?

Quite possibly β€” send the species, its Janka hardness, its standard board-foot price range, and a source (a regional lumber report is ideal). Requests with sources go straight onto the roadmap.

Q5

Do you sell lumber or take affiliate commissions?

No. No affiliate links inside results, no sponsored species presets. Advertising may appear on the site, but it never influences formula behavior. Trust is the whole business model.

Q6

Can I use your formulas in my own site or course?

Generally yes for personal, non-commercial teaching use with attribution β€” just ask via the form so we can confirm the material.
